Hey guys! If you read my “about” on the homepage, you’ve already learned a little bit about me, but I am going to take this space, this intro blog, to kind of expand a bit on what this is and why I’m doing it.
My name is Rachel. I am in my 30s, and I still feel like my brain is somewhere between 17-20 half the time. I live in the middle of nowhere in Southern Indiana and have always had a passion for live music. I went to my first concert at age 3! It was Alan Jackson, as part of the Houston Rodeo. This was in 1994.
I always grew up hearing my dad tell stories of the time he rode a bus for 3 days to California to a music festival, the time he COULD have seen Queen but didn’t, the time he made food for REO Speedwagon before they were famous. So it should be no surprise I ended up this way.
I’ve always been a live music girl. I would take half days from school and road trip 4 hours one way to catch a band in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Columbus, Cincinnati…we’d drive back right after and I’d be at school on time the next morning. That was my normal.

I didn’t start going to see multiple shows by the same band on the same tour until 2019 when The Jonas Brothers announced their comeback. I saw that tour twice, on back to back nights – Indianapolis and St Louis.
Since then I’ve gone a bit overboard. In 2023, in the month leading up to my wedding and following, I saw The 1975 five times on their “Still…At Their Very Best” tour and slept on the street for them three of those times. At time of writing this, it’s April 2026, and I have already seen Boys Like Girls five times since March 19, with 2 (maybe 3?) left to go. More on that later.
I love being this person. I love running around with friends. I love live music. I love the look on the musicians faces when they see a familiar face. There’s nothing like it. For a couple years, a few people had asked if I’d ever considered starting a blog about this life, and I’d thought about it, but never really committed to it, until now. Even just the other day someone said they wished they had my concert budget…honestly…me too. I have a background in journalism, and chose that major in college because of the movie Almost Famous. It is my all-time favorite movie, and for a long time, I dreamed of that being my life.
That didn’t end up panning out, so, many years too late, I am starting this. I am calling it “Sounds from Somewhere” because I’m always somewhere else. My husband doesn’t even know where I am half the time. I plan on recapping different shows I go to, and in the interim where I’m home for an extended period of time, I’ll reminisce on past shows as well.
I’m going to start with the beginning of the 2026 BLG tour, why I’m following them, and the memories that have been created. My journey with them has been especially special to me, and I can’t wait to share. I hope you’ll join me.
